LARAMIE -- At first glance, Craig Bohl wasn't too impressed with what transpired on Jonah Field Wednesday afternoon.

"Sometimes it's not always going to look good," Wyoming's eighth-year head coach said. "Today, I don't think it looked good."

Before he got too critical, Bohl said he wanted to review the tape. The eye in the sky never lies.

"I'm smart enough to know it's usually never as bad as you thought or never as good as you thought," he said. "So, somewhere in the middle we'll lie.

"... My sense is, right now, there's some guys that just kind of wanted to survive today."

Bohl said he wasn't particularly happy with the special teams. Punts weren't exactly soaring and placekickers missed. Remember, Bohl coaches the kickers.

"I've got a pretty critical eye," he said. "I mean, the bar we set is really high. A couple years ago, hell, I would've felt like that was a great practice. It ain't a great practice around here anymore."

Here's what else Bohl had to say about Wednesday's practice in Laramie:

* Sophomore running back Titus Swen and 338-pound freshman guard, Nofoafia Tulafono, didn't make it through practice today because of injuries. Bohl said he doesn't think it's anything major, but added bumps and bruises are going to happen with the type of physicality the team is playing with in camp.

* Wyoming closed practice with a goal-line scrimmage Wednesday. There was also some "live work" with the Cowboys' second fall scrimmage around the corner on Saturday. "We had a pretty physical day," Bohl said.

* Bohl once again talked about a pair of true freshmen who have been making waves in camp and could eventually see playing time this season -- wide receiver Jaylen Sargent and running back DQ James. "He's a guy that can do some things that adds something different," Bohl said of James, the Lancaster, Texas product.

* Why would getting a true freshman on the field this early be impressive? One word: depth. "I've been a head coach now for 18 years and this is the deepest football team that I've ever had," Bohl said. "I mean, there may have been some teams that maybe have been more talented, but there's a lot of older players, so I think at times freshmen will have a chance to play when there's not a lot of depth. We have a lot of depth."

* With the season opener just 17 days away, Bohl said he wants to see more consistency with this team. "We're about done with our install, so there's still some little things which turn into big things like a misalignment and a missed assignment," he said. "Sometimes you graze over those things, but if you're going to play at a really high rate, you've got to clean those things up.
