COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.,  --  Wyoming senior Tyler Severin fired a final round 67 (-5) on Sunday at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational to move up an amazing 23 places from 32nd place entering the day to tie for ninth in the final standings.

Severin’s round of 67 was the third lowest round on the final day of the three-day event and helped him finish with a 54-hole total of 213 (-3). The Wyoming Cowboys also finished the tournament strong as a team, posting their lowest round of the week, with a 292 (+4) to move up one place in the final team standings, placing 16th in the 24-team field.

Severin tallied six birdies, 11 pars and only one bogey in his final round. He played amazingly consistent all day, birdieing  three holes on the front nine and three on the back nine. He shot a 34 on the front and 33 on the back for his round of 67.

“It was good to finish the tournament on a positive note with our best round of the tournament in the final round,” said Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach. "Tyler (Severin) finished up really strong today.  He really played with confidence.

“This is a good group and while we didn’t play as well as we would have liked the first two days, having this week of training is going to help us the rest of the season. We now know some areas we need to improve on. We had some of the younger guys play well in the individual event, and I think we have several players who are going to be competing for a spot in the lineup.”

Wyoming’s other four Cowboys all shot 75 (+3) in the final round. Those four included: senior Kirby Coe-Kirkham, who tied for 36th at 220 (+4); sophomore Jaren Calkins, tied for 71st at 226 (+10); sophomore Kristof Panke, tied for 83rd at 228 (+12); and junior Jimmy Dales, finished tied for 116th at 240 (+24).

The team championship was won by Colorado State, with a final team score of 834 (-30). The individual medalist honor was captured by Connor Jones of Colorado State, who finished with a 54-hole total of 203 (-13).

The 2022 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational team competition was played at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course on the Air Force Academy campus outside Colorado Springs, Colo. The course measured 7,541 yards and played to a par of 72.

In addition to the team competition, there were 46 other collegiate golfers who competed in an individual event that was played at the Eisenhower Golf Club Silver Course, which measured 6,510 yards and played to a par of 72.
