LARAMIE -- When Wyoming's schedule was first released what were your realistic expectations during the non-conference portion?

Maybe 2-2? If the stars aligned, 3-1?

For the record, I said 3-1, the lone loss coming in Austin. I still think that will be the case after Appalachian State pays a visit to Laramie Saturday night. In fact, all the pickers think so, too.

This is a solid program making its way to the high plains. The Mountaineers have proven over the years they are not afraid to play anyone, anywhere, anytime -- and win. They upset Texas A&M in College State last September. Two straight seasons now they have given in-state foe North Carolina all it can handle. The Tar Heels escaped in double overtime in Week 2.

Everyone remembers this:

I'd argue if the Cowboys could've pulled off the miracle last Saturday night inside Darrell K. Royal Stadium, especially with back-up quarterback Evan Svoboda under center, that game would be talked about almost on the same level of App State's win over No. 4 Michigan in 2007.

That one, though, will always be bigger. The visitors weren't even in the FBS at the time.

We all think Air Force remains unbeaten after a trip to San Jose, and though we should all know better by now, we all have Oregon -- a three-touchdown favorite -- knocking off the Buffs in Eugene.

Here's this week's matchups and betting odds:

Appalachian State (+3) at Wyoming

Boise State (-7) at San Diego State

Air Force (-6) at San Jose State

New Mexico (+3.5) at UMass

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
