LARAMIE -- It's never too early to look at future football schedules is it?

Maybe it is for you, but I decided to break down the 2020 campaign and give a glimpse of what the Cowboys will face in the coming years. Before we get into the actual schedule next fall, let's look at the facts.

  • Three out of four non-conference opponents for the Cowboys won 11 games in 2019. Two of those games -- Utah and Weber State -- will be played at War Memorial Stadium. Wyoming travels to Lafayette to take on the Ragin' Cajuns.

  • The non-conference slate poses plenty of challenges, but so does the Mountain West schedule. The Cowboys will play three additional teams with 10 or more wins in 2019.

  • Who are those three? San Diego State, Boise State and Air Force. And they are all coming to Laramie.

  • Wyoming will host former conference rival Utah on Sept. 19. The Utes will most likely be in the Top 25 and will be breaking in a new quarterback. Utah back-ups attempted just 20 passes in 2019.

  • Don't overlook Weber State. Yes, they are an FCS team, but in 2019 they took a pair of MWC teams to the brink, including a 6-0 loss to San Diego State on the road. They also fell at Nevada, 19-13. The Wildcats will not be afraid to go on the road and play spoiler.

  • November was not kind to the Pokes. Wyoming traveled to Boise, Logan and Colorado Springs over the final month. Sandwiched in all of that was a home meeting with Border War rival Colorado State. We don't yet know the dates of the MWC games, but we do know the Broncos, Aggies and Falcons are all coming to Laramie. So is San Diego State.

  • Ball State is the other non-conference opponent in 2020. The Cardinals finished the season at 5-7. A four-game losing streak late in the year derailed a 4-3 start that saw BSU drop close games at home against Indiana, Florida Atlantic and a road game at North Carolina State.

  • Wyoming will play the standard 12-game season in 2020. Seven of those teams played in a bowl game this year. Weber State finished the season on a 10-1 tear before falling to James Madison in FCS Semifinals. JMU is playing for a national championship Saturday morning against, you guessed it, North Dakota State.

  • Wyoming has never played Ball State before. The Cowboys and Utes will meet for the 83rd time. Utah holds a 51-32 advantage in the series and has won 10 of the last 11, dating back to 2000. Wyoming and Louisiana have met once on a football field. That was back in 1991. Joe Tiller's Pokes rolled to a 28-15 victory in Laramie. Wyoming and Weber State have faced off four time. The Cowboys have won all four in Laramie, including a 35-32 victory over the Wildcats in 2011.
