UW defeats Montana State to close out Mountain Classic Matchplay
PALM DESERT, Calif., – Wyoming Cowgirls golf defeated Montana State 3-2 in the consolation round of the Mountain Classic Matchplay on Wednesday at The Classic Club.
Kyla Wilde set the tone for UW by winning her match over Lauren Greeny, 5&4. The senior finished 2-1 in the event to lead the Brown & Gold.

Freshman Emerson Purcell gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage by defeating Maddie Montoya, 5&4. Sophomore Kira Reisner clinched the match over the Bobcats with a win over Hannah Borass, 4&3.
Meghan Vogt and Sophie Spiva lost tight matches to cap the challenging three-day battle for UW, which lost 4-1 to Northern Arizona on Monday and 4-1 to North Dakota State on Tuesday.
Boise State, the tournament co-host along with UW, won the championship with a 3-2 win over Northern Arizona.
“Thrilled for our outcome today and the rebound from yesterday’s match,” UW head coach Josey Stender said. “The conditions were very difficult in round two, highlighting our winter rust. Today, however, we were much more confident and decisive. If we kept a stroke play score today we would have been around even par. A lot to build on as we continue our competitive spring.”
The Cowgirls will stay in Palm Desert to compete in the Wallace Golf Classic hosted by Long Beach State this coming Saturday through Monday at Monterey Country Club.
