UW Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo., – The University of Wyoming track and field program opened the outdoor season on Saturday at the CSU Pueblo Spank Blasing Invite in Pueblo, Colo. The first event of the season for the Brown and Gold saw top-10 marks and numerous event wins.
Cam Burkett came away with a first-place finish in the men’s shot put after throwing a 61’ 0¼”. This marks a new personal best for Burkett as well as moves him into fifth all-time for the Cowboys. Gage Griffith also claimed a top spot in the men’s shot put as he placed third with a throw of 53’ 5½”.
Gabby Drube moved into fourth all-time for the Cowgirls as she finished second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.09. Taylor Weidinger and Gabby Mendoza-Monila complete the trio of Cowgirls who finished in the top six in the event. Weidinger ran a time of 1:01.27 to finish third as Mendoza-Monlina claimed sixth after running 1:04.64.
Jaheim Ferguson closed the day with top-five finishes. Ferguson ran a 51.95 in the 400-meter hurdles to take second. In the 110-meter hurdles, Ferguson finished in fifth with a time of 14.79.
The Cowgirls 4x100-meter relay team placed third after running a time of 48.63.
Sadie McMullen claimed the top spot in the women’s long jump with a mark of19’ 2½” and Joan Easter came in second in the event with a jump of 18’ 8”. Kayla Stibley secured second in the women’s pole vault with her jump of 11’ 5¼”. Elayna Chafee placed fourth in the women’s triple jump with a 38’ 1” jump.
Remar Pitter jumped a 24’ 2” in the men’s long jump to claim third. Samuel Schneider took seventh in the men’s high jump after jumping 6’ 4¾”. Kaliff Guevara finished in third in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 46’ 4¼”.
The Cowgirls claimed the top two spots in the women’s hammer throw. Mary Carbee threw a 175’ 11¾” to win the event as Isabella Reimann claims second with a mark of 174’ 9”.
The Cowboys will be back in action next week as they travel to Fort Collins, Colo. to compete in the Jack Christiansen Invite at Colorado State University.
