Naz Meyer Again Named Conference Freshman of the Week
LARAMIE -- Cowboy basketball freshman Nasir (Naz) Meyer was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday for the third time this season.

Meyer recorded a career-high 26 points for the Cowboys in a win over South Dakota. It was the most points by freshman for the Cowboys since Graham Ike recorded 32 points against San Jose State in the First Round of the Mountain West Tournament in 2021.
"I don't ever see Naz during the game, I see Naz in the gym at 6:30 a.m. So, that's how I know he's good," Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks said last Tuesday after the Cowboys' 106-79 rout of visiting South Dakota. "When he goes in the gym at 6:30 a.m., he's going to play well. When guys stop getting in the gym, they play bad.
"... Naz was really good today because Naz has been really good in practice. He's been really good and consistent with his habits."
The freshman from Los Angeles, Calif. also added seven rebounds and was 11-of-15 from the field and went 4-of-5 from behind the arc, which were both career bests.
Meyer is averaging 12.3 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He's shooting 50.6% from the field and connecting on nearly 42% of his attempts from deep.
"Everybody talks about all these good freshmen in the United States of America. Now, I'm telling you what, you put Naz Meyer in a gym with (Houston's) Kingston Flemings or any of these good freshman in the United States of America, he's going to hold his own," Wicks continued. "He's going to be one of the best ones out there. I put that on anything."
The Cowboys close out the non-conference schedule on Monday evening facing South Dakota State in the Sanford Pentagon at 6 p.m.
