Cowboys Vault Up Leaderboard Following Strong Second Round

SALEM, Ore., – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team finished Day 1 at the Oregon State Invite very strong.

The Cowboys were the biggest movers in Round 2 with a course-best 3-under round to vault into a tie for fourth at 588 (+12).

“I’m really proud of the guys,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “We had brand new conditions – Oregon, sea level, slick greens. It’s tough. The conditions are tough. At the end of the day, this was a really good experience for us. We just hung in there and got a feel for what was going on (during the first round), trusted the process, and we just started to see things out there. We got comfortable.”

Brody Leid spearheaded the strong Tuesday afternoon. He fired a second round 66 (-6) – tied for the 20th best round in program history – which included six birdies and an eagle. This followed a first round 76 (+4), and the two scores together have Leid at 142 (-2) and just one shot off the lead.

Conner Scheich wasn’t far off Leid’s torrid pace. The freshman shot a blemish-free Round 2 score of 67 (-5) with five birdies. He’s tied for 25th at 148 (+4) following an opening round 81 (+9).

Ryker Lind showcased consistency and shares 38th place at 150 (+6). He opened with a 76 (+4) and closed with a 74 (+2).

Kristof Panke rounded out Wyoming’s countable scores. He’s tied for 58th at 153 (+9) after rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6).

Kellen Ball’s score of 157 (+13) is dropped. He’s tied for 71st following scores of 76 (+4) and 81 (+9).

Brody Knowlton and Austin Barry competed as individuals. Knowlton is tied for 38th at 150 (+6), while Barry is tied for 76th at 160 (+16).

Boise State leads the team standings at 580 (+4). Utah Valley’s Colby Hutchens and Gonzaga’s Guillermo Polo Bodart share the spot atop the individual leaderboard at 141 (-3).

The third and final round gets underway Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
