Wyoming Cowgirl Golf Finishes Eighth at UVU Hobble Creek Classic

PROVO, Utah -- The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad wrapped up play at the UVU Hobble Creek Classic on Tuesday finishing eighth amongst the 18-team field. The Cowgirls were led by the duo of Kyla Wilde and Samantha Hui who both opened their seasons with top-25 finishes.

“Overall, we played solid today other than a few errant shots on some holes where the recovery is minimal, especially on the difficult greens,” UW head women’s golf coach Josey Stender said. “I am very encouraged about the depth of our team, and we have a lot to build off from this event.”

Wilde was the top placer for Wyoming posting a three-round total of 226 (+13) finishing tied for 17^thwhile Hui capped off the tournament tied for 21^st with a three-round total of 227 (+14). Jadan Gonzalez wrapped up her first tournament in the brown and gold tied for 34^th with a three-round total of 231 (+18). Rounding out the Cowgirls lineup, Morgan Ryan finished tied for 43^rd while Sophie Spiva finished tied for 78^th.

As a team, the Cowgirls posted a score of 917 (+65) finishing in eighth just one stroke ahead of CSU-Northridge. Boise State took home the team title with a score of 883 (+31) while Weber State finished as runner-up with a score of 901 (+49)

Playing as individuals, Rachel Stoinski closed out the tournament in a tie for 56^th while Grace Dunkleberger finished tied for 90^th.

Up next for the Cowgirls is a trip to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to compete in the Coeur d’Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga Sept. 18-20.
