Kiley Reisner in Contention at Bobcat Desert Classic
GOODYEAR, Ariz., – The Reisner sisters have Cowgirl golf on the rise at the Bobcat Desert Classic.
Kiley Reisner shot 4-under 68 and Kira Reisner shot 1-under 71 during the second round on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,218-yard Golf Club of Estrella to help vault Wyoming from seventh to fifth place in the 13-team tournament.
Entering Wednesday's final round of the 54-hole event, Kiley Reisner (-2) is in a five-way tie for first place in the race for the individual trophy. The reigning Mountain West co-golfer and co-freshman of the week won the Thunderbird Classic last month in St. George, Utah, and set the UW record for lowest event score (207) last week at the Cowgirl Classic.
Kira Reisner is currently at even par and tied for eighth. Elle Higgins (+6) and Meghan Vogt (+8) improved their scores by two strokes each in the second round.
"Kiley and Kira's play was terrific and exciting," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "They both had good game plans and stuck to them."
The Cowgirls carded a collective even-par 288, which was a 12-shot improvement from the opening round. Seattle (578) leads host Montana (582) by four shots at the top of the team standings.
Kiley Reisner's 68 was the lowest round of the day in the 80-player field. She is tied with North Dakota State's Avery Bartels, Cal Baptist's Pusanisa Ekkantrong and Seattle teammates Zoe Rubichon and Blayne Brown entering the final 18 holes.
"Today was a much-improved quality rebound round," Stender said. "We putted more confidently and it showed in the number of birdies we made."
This will be the final tournament of the season for the Cowgirls before the Mountain West Championships April 21-23 in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
