The Community Night, hosted by Cowboy Football, gave UW fans a glimpse at the Cowboys as Wyoming is two weeks away from opening the season at Akron on Aug. 28.

What Head Coach Jay Sawvel Had to Say:
“It was good, and I appreciate all the fans that came out. It was fun. I was pleased with the attention to detail and the intent that the team had today with everything we would do in an evening game. We had good things on both sides of the ball, and we need to improve. We were sharp and handled the two-minute (offense) well. I thought the kickers were good. We have things to build on.”

One Cowboy that had a strong evening was wide receiver Bricen Brantley. The sophomore hauled in a deep pass -- 58 yards --for a score from quarterback Landon Sims. He also added a punt block during the scrimmage. The Houston product scooped up the ball and walked into the end zone.

“I love Bricen’s demeanor,” Sawvel said. “He just works and works. He has an unlimited gas tank and never gets tired. You appreciate a guy that can play fast for a prolonged period.”

Wyoming fans also got their first glimpse of the renovations to the west side of War Memorial Stadium with improved seating, wider rows, and improved concessions, restrooms, and lighting.

Furthermore, the addition WYO Sports Ranch Club & Loge seating and the renovation to the press box/media area.

Wyoming will officially open the season on Aug. 28 with a trip to Akron. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. MT and the game will be televised on ESPN-Plus. It will mark the first trip to the State of Ohio for the Cowboys since playing at Bowling Green in 2011.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
