"I think we have enough players that need the game-day experience like this. What it's like, you know?" Sawvel said. "So that's everything from us having breakfast in the morning, meetings in the morning, a pre-game meal at 3:30 in the afternoon to going out and playing."

Wyoming will also open the season on a Thursday night, Aug. 28 at Akron. That game kicks off at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

"Hopefully there's a lot of people that want to watch football on Thursday night," Sawvel added. "... I hope a lot of people show up. I think it'd be great."

Gates will open at 7 p.m. for the event and fans are asked to enter through Gate 4 on the east side of the stadium. Fans will be allowed to sit in the lower east side of the stadium due to on-going construction.

Parking will be available in the Ford Lot on the east side of the stadium. No photos or video will be allowed during practice.

Sawvel said this outing will not follow the typical spring game format, instead featuring just the offense versus the defense. He said the team will do situational work and a live two-minute drill. There will also be a full Mountain West officiating crew.

Sawvel compared the scrimmage to the third NFL preseason game, saying some players will play close to an entire half. Veterans, like offensive linemen Jack Walsh and Caden Barnett, along with tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, for instance, likely won't see much action.

"If we kind of like this type of thing, then maybe this is something that we hold on to going forward," Sawvel added.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.

Just The Facts: Size Doesn't Matter For Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium

Did you know it would take the populations of Gillette (32,857), Laramie (32,381), Rock Springs (23,319), Sheridan (17,844) and Wright (1,200) to create a sellout inside Michigan's famed 107,601-seat Big House, the largest college football stadium in the nation?

For those of you not familiar with the Cowboy State, those are Wyoming's third through sixth most inhabited cities, along with the small mining town in Campbell County.
