Wyoming off to solid start at Cowgirl Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Wyoming battled through chilly, windy conditions Wednesday and sits sixth at the annual Cowgirl Classic on the par-72, 6,191-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes golf course.

Sophie Spiva, the junior from Casper, leads UW and is tied for 13th overall at +5 entering Thursday's final round.

Kyla Wilde got off to a blistering start and was -5 until a triple bogey on No. 14. The senior from Phoenix shot an even par 72 in the first round and 81 in the second round which puts her in a tie for 25th at +9 with teammate Grace Dunkleberger, who is playing as an individual.

Meghan Vogt (+10) and Kira Reisner (+11) are also in the top 35 in the event, which started 91 total golfers.

Iowa State (+12) has a one stroke lead over UNLV (+13) atop the standings in the 15-team field. The Cyclones' Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and the Rebels' Mayumi Umezu are tied with Grand Canyon's Anci Dy for the individual lead at +1.
