
Wyoming Posts Three First-Place Finishes, Leads Heptathlon
GOLDEN, Colo., – The University of Wyoming track and field program won three events and holds the lead in the women’s heptathlon after the first day of the Kit Mayer Classic, Friday.

In the first completed event for Wyoming, junior jumper Elayna Chafee won the triple jump with an outdoor personal best of 39’ 3 3/4" (11.98 meters). Chafee won the event in her last attempt after the second-place finisher took the lead by 0.01 meters. Her winning jump moved her up to No. 7 in program outdoor history.
Senior jumper Jefferson Danso also took first in the men’s triple jump. His mark of 48’ 5 1/2" (14.77 meters) came on his first jump attempt. This is Danso’s best outdoor triple jump since the 2022 Mountain West Outdoor Championships. Freshman Christian Edwards took third in the event with a personal-best leap of 45’ 10 3/4" (13.99 meters).
In the men’s hammer throw, freshman Charles LaFore came out on top with a Wyoming freshman record and No. 6 program mark of 218’ 9” (66.68 meters). Lafore now holds the top true freshman throw in the NCAA this season. Freshman Colt Sotelo finished 14th after not reaching the final with his first hammer finish of his career at 168' 6" (51.37 meters). Senior Daniel Reynolds didn’t record a mark in his three attempts.
In the women’s hammer throw, three Cowgirls competed, with junior Kaitlyn Gallo making the finals. Gallo finished in ninth with her top throw reaching 170’ 8” (52.01 meters).
Junior Kais Kimuli recorded her first mark in the event, placing 11th with a throw of 164’ 10” (50.25 meters) while senior Isabella Reimann took 13th with her throw of 160’ 7” (48.94 meters).
Freshman Avery Navest leads the women’s heptathlon after day one with 3,205 points. She posted a personal best in each of the four events, coming fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12, first in the high jump with a clearance of 5’ 4 1/2” (1.64 meters), first in the shot put with a throw of 42’ 4” (12.90 meters) and first in the 200 meters with a time of 25.13.
Freshman Lily Nichols sits in sixth with 2,388 points after day one’s action in the heptathlon. She ran a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.74, placed ninth in the high jump at 4’ 9 1/2" (1.46 meters), 10th in the shot put with a throw of 26’ 1 3/4" (7.97 meters) and seventh in the 200 meters, crossing the line at 27.54.
UP NEXT
Day two of the Kit Mayer Classic will start with the discus throw at 10 a.m. while track events begin at noon with the 4x400-meter relay. The women’s heptathlon will conclude at 3:30 p.m. with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters.
