Wyoming Seniors Earn Mountain West Player of Week Honors
LARAMIE -- Seniors John Hoyland and Tyrecus Davis both earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors after the Cowboys 15-14 upset last Saturday night at Washington State.
Hoyland, who has claimed this special teams award six times in his career, scored nine of those points in Pullman, booting through all three of his field-goal attempts from 42, 40 and 22 yards. The Broomfield, Colo., product, who is also now Wyoming's all-time scoring leader, capped his final season in Laramie, nailing 14-of-15 tries from inside the 50-yard line.
Hoyland drilled a school record 73 made field goals during his five years on campus. He accounted for 366 career points.

Davis, a native of Greenville, Texas, is the conference's defensive player of the week. He finished his final game for the Cowboys, tying a career-high with seven total tackles. It was the second time in his two seasons at Wyoming he has tallied that many stops. The other came in his first game in brown and gold, a double-overtime thriller over Texas Tech inside War Memorial Stadium.
Davis added a tackle-for-loss on a key fourth down, stoning Cougar quarterback John Mateer. He also picked off the 3,000-yard passer on the final drive of the game to cap the win. That was his second interception at Wyoming.
Davis and the Cowboy defensive held Washington State to 150 yards below their average. The Cougars, who averaged better than 50 points per game in six outings inside Martin Stadium this fall, managed to score just two first-half touchdowns in the loss.
Davis caps his two-year stint on the high plains with 69 tackles and 15 pass breakups. He also forced a fumble.
