LARAMIE -- Wyoming will say goodbye to 17 seniors today against 12th-ranked Boise State.

While the visitors are well on their way to a berth in the 12-team College Football Playoff, led by Ashton Jeanty, who could be hoisting a Heisman Trophy next month, the Cowboys are simply in search of positives.

That outgoing class provided plenty of those, along with a number of memorable victories during their tenures in Laramie.

Placekicker John Hoyland will cap a brilliant career that leaves him the program's leading scorer.

Locals like Jordan Bertagnole, Will Pelissier, Kimball Madsen and Caleb Driskill have left their mark, too. A pair of linebackers -- Shea Suiaunoa and Connor Shay -- helped lead this team to three postseason berths. So did Alex Brown, Nofoafia Tulafono, Isaac White, Nick Miles, Wyett Ekeler, DeVonne Harris and Caleb Cooley.

Cornerback Tyrecus Davis and running back Jamari Ferrell entered the fray in 2023. Punter Jack Culbreath was a one-and-done.

Cody Tucker and Jared Newland break down a disappointing showing last Friday night in Fort Collins and look ahead to the tall task that awaits the Cowpokes today inside War Memorial Stadium.

Can Wyoming corral Jeanty? If so, can they stop Maddux Madsen from going over the top? Can this front five hold up against a Boise State defense that has 41 sacks to its credit? Can Harrison Waylee get going and "drag" this game along like Jay Sawvel hopes?

The seemingly obvious answer is no. But, like they always say, that's why they play the game.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
