LARAMIE -- DJ Eliot has made 12 different stops during his college coaching career, not including a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite all those different logos and addresses, he'll be the first to tell you, at heart, he's forever a Wyoming Cowboy.

The former linebacker in Laramie from 1996-98, is currently the defensive coordinator at North Carolina State. He's also made pit stops at Houston, Miami, Texas State, Tulsa, Rice, Florida State, Kentucky, Colorado, Kansas and Temple.

Eliot also served at his alma mater as a graduate assistant under Dana Dimel in 1999.

Over a six-year span, a daily reminder would ding on his cellphone: "Make Drue's day the best it can be."

Since Sept. 26, 2026, that alert still goes off everyday. It now reads: "Make Drue proud."

That's the day Eliot's 18-year-old daughter, Drue Eliot, lost her battle with Ewing sarcoma, a rare cancer that causes tumors to grow in and around bones. The girl who loved being a "coach's kid" was never someone dying of cancer, but someone living with cancer, her heartbroken father said on a the latest episode of ACC Huddle on ESPN.
