Pokes Receive Verbal Commitment From Fifth Colorado Prospect
LARAMIE -- Jay Sawvel and Co. batted a 1.000 in June.
Wyoming hosted 12 players on official visits. The entire dozen, including Freddie Burke, have since given their verbal commitment to play for the Pokes.
The 6-foot, 170-pound safety publicly announced his decision to join the class of 2027 last Saturday on social media.
"Blessed and honored to announce my commitment to Wyoming," the Denver-area product penned on X. "Thank you to my family, coaches and teammates for being by my side."
Burke, who plays at Legend High School in Parker -- the same program that produced former star linebacker Chad Muma and current running backs Ryken Banks and Jaden Lawrence -- was a standout in all three phases last fall.
Out of the secondary, Burke tallied 57 tackles and picked off three passes. He added 19 receptions for nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns on offense and was dynamic in the return game, rolling up almost 650 total yards. He found the end zone nine times and was responsible for 1,325 all-purpose yards.
Burke was named the conference's defensive MVP and first-team honors. He was an all-state honorable mention.
All of that above led to an impressive 18 offers, including from fellow Mountain West programs Air Force and North Dakota State. Army, Navy and New Mexico State were also in the mix. So was a whole host of Ivy League schools like Yale, Harvard, Penn, Dartmouth and Cornell.

Wyoming's staff has been busy in the Centennial State.
Burke is the fifth Colorado product out of the team's 15 current verbal commits, joining Cherry Creek wideout Alijah Landrum-Hamilton and defensive back Karson McKenzie, along with Pomona High School quarterback Tucker Ingersoll and Ralston Valley receiver Levi Rillos.
In-state recruits -- Cache McFadden, a safety from Cody, and Big Horn offensive tackle Chase Garber -- also plan to call Laramie home.
So does safety Jimmel Champion (Huntington Beach, Calif.), defensive lineman Brett Singler (Shiocton, Wisc.), edge rusher Garrison Manzanarez (Cyress, Calif.), offensive lineman Noah Reid (Mission, Kan.), signal caller Michael Vander Luitgaren (Batavia, Ill.), tight end Thomas Prescott (Batavia, Ill.), linebacker Drew Benassi and nose tackle Kingston Beyer (Fort Worth, Texas)
Sawvel and Co. are typically in the single digits when it comes to verbal commitments this early in the recruiting cycle during his three years on the sidelines in Laramie. Craig Bohl's decade-long tenure was no different.
Sawvel has said numerous times in the past he likes to put prospects on the sidelines for games in the fall inside War Memorial Stadium.
Wyoming's known commits have bumped the '27 class, so far, up to 95th nationally out of 138 FBS programs. UNLV (64) and Nevada (94) are the only Mountain West programs currently ahead of the Cowboys. San Jose State (98), New Mexico (99), Hawaii (102), North Dakota State (103), Northern Illinois (114), UTEP (131) and Air Force (N/A) round out the conference rankings.
