Jimmy Dales in fifth, Cowboys in 10th after second round of Ka’anapali Classic

LAHAINA, Maui. -- Saturday saw the Cowboy golf squad continue play at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. Jimmy Dales led the way in the second round shooting a 63 (-8) and finishing the round tied for fifth. As a team, Wyoming finished the day on par after a second round of 286 (+2). The Pokes sit in tenth place with one 18-hole round left to play.
Wyoming is five strokes ahead of 11th place Gonzaga and five strokes back of ninth place Sacramento State. No. 14 ranked Kansas leads the 14-team field with a score of 530 (-38) after two rounds.
Dales finished the second day tied for fifth and is only four strokes behind tournament leader Carson Griggs of Denver. Cowboys Bryce Waters and Jaren Calkins both currently sit inside the top 50 tied for 32nd and 50th respectively.
Rounding out the Cowboy lineup, Kirby Coe-Kirkham and Tyler Severin both had a second round of 75 (+4), as both Cowboys are tied for 67th after the first 36 holes.
“We are playing well, we are just making some unusual mistakes. The positive is if we can clean those mistakes up then there is a lot of good golf there,” UW Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. “I feel really good about the guys. If we eliminate those mistakes we can have a good round tomorrow.”
The Cowboys also saw very solid play from their individuals with three of the four individuals shooting under par on the day. Jared Edeen finished the second round in a tie for 32nd overall and third amongst the field of individuals.
“I’m very pleased and encouraged with our entire group, one through nine they all played great today and we really showed our depth. All the individuals really showed up and played well today and I’m very proud of their efforts.”
“The goal for tomorrow is to have a nice day for the program and have all nine guys play well and see if we can move up in the team standings.”
The Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in being hosted by the University of Hawai'i. The tournament is being played at the Ka'anapali Golf Club's Royal Ka'anapali Course in Lahaina, Maui. The course measures 6,700 yards and plays to a par of 71.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the third and final 18-hole round.
