COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., — Katelyn Mitchem broke a University of Wyoming school record for the second weekend in a row as the Cowboy and Cowgirl distance runners competed at the Air Force Open on Friday.

Mitchem, a Broomfield, Colo., product, ran a 2:08.20 in the 800M at the Air Force Academy to take over the top spot in program history. Mitchem broke her own school record in the mile last weekend at the 2023 Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. The senior took the top spot in the event. 

Henry Ilyasova and Oscar Roll were in action in the mile. Ilyasova ran an unconverted time of 4:30.8 while Goll ran a 4:36.57. The Cowboys finished second and sixth respectively in the event. Cooper Brown, Connor Zydek and Will Persin all hit the track in the 3000M. Brown took third with a time of 9:03.05. 

Michelle Renner and Kennedy Burch ran the mile on the women’s side. Renner went 5:27.89 while Burch went 5:30.20 for a 12th and 14th place finish. Eowyn Dalbec, Kaylee Bentley and Mady Willis ran the 3000M for the Cowgirls. In a field of four women, Dalbec took the top spot with a time of 10:44.37. 

The Wyoming Track and Field programs will be back in action from the 2023 Indoor Track & Field Championships next week from the University of New Mexico.
