PODCAST: Where Does Wyoming Hoops Go From Here?
LARAMIE -- Now what?
The news Wyoming fans were dreading came true last Tuesday afternoon when Graham Ike officially entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The 6-foot-10, 255-pound forward, who helped lead the Cowboys to an at-large bid to the Big Dance following the 2022 campaign, becomes the eighth UW player to jump ship since the March 13, joining Noah Reynolds, Nate Barnhart, Jeremiah Oden, Xavier DuSell, Jake Kyman, Ethan Anderson and Max Agbonkpolo.
Hunter Maldonado and Hunter Thompson are also gone, exhausting their eligibility. If you are keeping score at home, Jeff Linder is now tasked with filling 10 open scholarships out of 13. Oh, he also had a coaching vacancy.
Brendan Wenzel, Kenny Foster and Caden Powell have decided to stick it out.
Basketball's traditional signing day is April 12. That's in 16 days.
Jared Newland and I dive into this unprecedented predicament on this week's Roaring Repeater Podcast, which you can find right HERE. We talk about the fan reaction to this exodus -- the intelligent takes and the, well, idiotic ones -- and discuss the future of the program and where Linder and Co. go from here.
Craig Bohl and the Cowboy football team kickoff spring practice in Laramie on Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first of 15 NCAA-approved workouts, leading up to the annual spring game April 29 inside War Memorial Stadium.
What are the storylines heading into the 2023 campaign? Hear it all right HERE.
We also put a bow on the Cowgirls' run to the second round of the WNIT, other UW Olympic sports and the ongoing NCAA Tournament, which for the first time will feature a Mountain West program in the Final Four.
Congrats to San Diego State (That tasted awful coming out of our mouths.)
