Cowgirl Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw Against UNLV
LARAMIE -- The University of Wyoming soccer team collected a point Thursday. The Cowgirls drew with UNLV, 1-1, at the Madrid Sports Complex.
The result moves Wyoming to 5-3-4 on the season and 0-1-2 (2 points) in Mountain West Conference play. The Rebels are now 3-6-3 overall and 1-0-2 (5 points) in league action.

“I thought we were the better team, to be honest,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “We created a lot more chances than they did, we just couldn’t find the goal more than once. We scouted that their goalkeeper was prone to spills, and we were able to take advantage of it. It just wasn’t enough at the end of the day to get the win.”
Alyssa Glover provided the score for Wyoming. She netted her seventh of the season off a feed from Kiley Ballek in the 50th minute, which staked the Pokes to 1-0 edge.
Glover has 15 career goals for her career. That’s good enough for 11th on program’s all-time goal scoring list.
Wyoming held a 17-13 advantage in shots, and a 9-3 lead in shots on target. Glover had the majority of those shots with six. Cassie Villanueva owned a team-high three shots for UNLV.
The Rebels earned their goal Thursday via a penalty kick. Jael Kapua’ala cashed in during the 67th minute, which leveled the contest, 1-1.
Cowgirls’ goalie, Haley Bartel, turned away a total of two shots. The Rebels’ keeper, Hanne Breuer, had a busy day with eight saves.
Thursday marked the first time since 2018 where the Cowgirls earned a result at home against the Rebels.
Wyoming remains home this weekend. The Pokes host Nevada on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
