LARAMIE -- Coming off of a competitive Pre-Nationals meet that featured numerous ranked teams on both the men's and women’s, the Cowboy and Cowgirl Cross Country squads are ready for the Mountain West Championships to be hosted at the University of New Mexico’s N. Campus Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M..  

For the third meet in a row the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be up against a field that features multiple teams ranked in the top 30. On the men’s side the field is led by No. 11 ranked Air Force and also features No. 19 Colorado State, No. 21 Utah State and No. 23 Boise State. On the women’s side the Cowgirls will be up against three ranked teams including No.1 ranked New Mexico as well as No. 12 Colorado State and No. 28 Utah State.

Prior to Friday’s meet a poll was conducted amongst the league’s Cross Country Coaches for predicted order of finish. The Cowboys were tabbed to take fifth while the Cowgirls are slated in at the sixth spot. 

The Cowboys will be led by senior Oisin O’Gallin who has been the men’s top finisher in the two 8K races this season with a top time of 24:11.6 so far. The Cowgirls are led by junior Katelyn Mitchem who has paced the women in all three races this season with a top 6K time of 21:10.8. Both O’Gallin and Mitchem picked up those times at the Pre-Nationals meet in Tallahassee, Fla. 

Last time out the Wyoming Cross Country squads competed in the Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Florida State. Against a collection of nationally ranked teams the Cowboys finished 28th while the Cowgirls finished 24th and finished ahead of regional foe Montana State. Both squads will now look to use the experience gained from a such a competitive race as they ready to compete at the Mountain West Championships.
