Wyoming Cowboys in the NFL: Championship Round

LARAMIE -- Chad Muma is the last man standing.

Whichever way the AFC Championship game fell Sunday, the University of Wyoming was going to have a former student-athlete competing for a Super Bowl ring. New England hung on in blizzard-like conditions to defeat Denver, 10-7, sending Muma to the biggest sporting event on the calendar.

Muma made one tackle in the road victory, giving him two tackles during the Patriots’ playoff run. In addition to the regular season, he’s made 11 tackles between his time in Indianapolis and New England.

The 6-foot-3, 239-pound Colorado product spent the first three seasons of his NFL career in Jacksonville after being selected in the third round of the 2022 draft. He was released by the Jaguars last August.

Former UW teammate, Frank Crum, is the Cowboy going home.

He played 16 snaps for the Broncos, nine on offense and seven on special teams. For the season, Crum participated in 168 snaps.

The Super Bowl is set for Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m. It will pit Muma’s Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert Gagliardi, Jared Newland, Ryan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
