LARAMIE -- It's never too early for predictions, right?

Athlon Sports did just that Tuesday, naming 13 Wyoming players to the 2023 All- Mountain West squad, including six first-team selections.

Only Boise State (16), San Diego State (14) have more names on this list than the Cowboys, who were tied with Fresno State and Air Force.

Harrison Waylee has yet to take a snap in a Wyoming uniform. Still, the 5-foot-10, 198-pound running back landed on the first team. He rushed for nearly 1,930 yards during his three-year stint at Northern Illinois. Waylee also found the end zone 10 times for the Huskies. Joining Waylee on the first-team offense is left tackle Frank Crum. The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Laramie native is entering his sixth season at UW.

Interior defensive linemen Cole Godbout and Jordan Bertagnole were both named to the first team, along with linebacker Easton Gibbs.

Godbout tallied just 33 tackles and a pass breakup after suffering a lower-leg injury in Week 6. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound nose tackle was the third-leading tackler in 2021, racking up 70 stops. He also led the team in sacks with five. Bertagnole finished with 50 tackles and five sacks last fall. The 6-foot-4, 287-pound Casper product also forced a pair of fumbles.

Gibbs took center stage in 2022, replacing All-American middle linebacker Chad Muma. The Cowboys' defense didn't skip a beat.

The Temecula, Calif., native led Wyoming with an eye-popping 121 tackles, 48 more than his running mate on the outside, Shae Suiaunoa. The 6-foot-2, 236-pound junior finished with the third-most tackles in the Mountain West.

Wyoming placekicker John Hoyland was also named to the first team after connecting on 22-of-25 field goals last season, including a long of 55. The junior from Broomfield, Colo., drilled 4-of-5 kicks from beyond 50 yards. He was a perfect 28-of-28 on extra-point attempts.

Tight end Treyton Welch and center Nofoafia Tulafono, along with edge rusher DeVonne Harris, made the second-team, while defensive end Braden Siders was the only Cowboy to land on the third team. Suiaunoa, safety Wyett Ekeler and punter Clayton Stewart made the fourth team.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
