LARAMIE -- Craig Bohl said this spring he didn't feel real comfortable entering the 2023 season with just three quarterbacks.

Problem solved.

Carson May, a four-star signal caller who began his career at Iowa, committed to Wyoming Thursday afternoon, per his Twitter account. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Oklahoma native joins incumbent Andrew Peasley, Evan Svoboda and Jayden Clemons in the Cowboys' QB room. Kaden Anderson, a true freshman from the Dallas area, is still recovering from a torn ACL and likely won't be ready for fall camp.

"We have to have three and we'd probably like to have four," Wyoming's head coach said of the quarterback situation in mid-April. "We're looking right now to add and supplement our squad. We have some candidates. Three is a little bit light. Four is probably going to feel much more comfortable. I think we can get there."

May is just the third prospect in program history with that many stars behind his name, joining offensive linemen Deshawn Woods and Jon Hawk.

He has four years of eligibility remaining.

After spending his first season in Iowa City, May entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, eventually landing at Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) where he competed in spring practice with the Red Ravens.

Despite throwing for 8,549 yards and 107 touchdowns during his career at Jones High School, May was lightly recruited, receiving just three FBS offers from Western Michigan, Old Dominion and Iowa.

May was the 13th-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country, according to Rivals.com. The Oklahoman newspaper named him No. 30 on the state's Top-30 prep players in the 2022 class. He was the only signal caller to land on that list.

May was named the 2A Player of the Year after racking up 3,082 passing yards and 37 touchdown tosses as a senior. He also rushed for nearly 500 yards and found the end zone 11 times on the ground.

He helped lead Jones to the state playoffs in all four seasons and sported a 38-11 overall record.

At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Wyoming entered the offseason with five quarterbacks. Caden Becker was moved to defensive end and eventually entered the transfer portal. So did Hank Gibbs.

Becker signed with Nebraska last week and will line up at H-Back for the Huskers. Gibbs is heading down the road to Greeley where he will go under center at Northern Colorado.
