* University of Wyoming press release

LARAMIE -- The early stages of this soccer season feels different for Colleen Corbin. The University of Wyoming head coach, for the first time in her dozen years of coaching, isn’t working directly with goalkeepers.

Corbin – a two-time All-American in net during her playing days at Oregon State – hired assistant coach Kathy Prescott this past offseason with the sole focus of her working with goalkeepers. So, while it feels understandably strange for Corbin, she couldn’t stand more pleased with how two these two entities have come together.

“’KP’ has been phenomenal,” Corbin said. “She’s very smart, very detail oriented, understands the position incredibly well and she coaches it incredibly well. It has been super fun to watch her coach that group and super fun to watch the group respond to her.

“I feel very fortunate that she joined our staff.”

Prescott is working with an eclectic group of goalkeepers. The collection includes a starter from last season, another returnee, a transfer and three freshmen.

Senior Alex Daws started 14 games in 2021. She held a 6-7-1 record and logged one shutout.

Daws made 64 saves and owned a save percentage of .711. She allowed 26 goals and recorded a GAA of 1.93 last fall.

Senior Miyuki Schoyen transferred to Wyoming from Drexel. She made 25 starts and had 31 appearances over a three-year stretch as a Dragon.

In nearly 2,400 minutes played, Shoyen boasted 110 saves, good enough for a save percentage of .764. She logged 10 shutouts and a GAA of 1.28.

Junior Allison Mills comes back this fall after a couple seasons of providing depth at the position. Three freshmen – Finley Crabtree, Maddie Dion, Allyson Fischer – round out the goalkeeper position for the Cowgirls.

Wyoming continues exhibition play Wednesday. They host Kansas State in a match set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
