LARAMIE -- Jay Sawvel has gone back to the well to find his next defensive end.

After snagging Esaia Bogar out of Riverside City College in the winter, Wyoming's head coach plucked yet another edge rusher from the southern California junior college, signing Peter Eyabi.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound junior announced his commitment on social media Friday evening.

The San Marcos, Calif., product is the third newcomer to commit to the Cowboys since last Saturday's spring game, joining wide receiver Michael Fitzgerald (Central Missouri) and punter Bart Edmiston Jr. (Jones Community College).

Another defensive end has signed, but has yet to make his announcement public, according to a source familiar with the situation. That same source said this staff is far from done adding to the roster, setting its sights on "four to five" additional players, including a running back and possibly a pair of defensive backs.

Eyabi joins a room that returns just one starter, Tyce Westland.

Kevin Sjogren missed the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL. Sawvel and Co. also added transfers Brayden Wilson (Weber State) and Bogar, along with freshmen Cade Brook (Aurora, Colo.), Jason Handy (Cedar Park, Texas) and Axel Ramazani (Des Moines, Iowa), who has been on campus since the semester began.

Dawan Martin, who spent the previous four seasons at Youngstown State, was also signed in the winter. He is no longer with the program.

Eyabi registered 11.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss last fall in just 12 games. He tallied 54 total stops, including a season-high seven in a 70-45 rout of No. 16 El Camino. He chalked up at least two sacks in three outings. He also batted down a pass and forced a fumble.

He was recruited by Mountain West foes San Jose State and New Mexico this offseason. Campbell and Idaho State also offered.

Wyoming looking to add to roster with spring portal looming

Wyoming lost two key contributors -- Braden Siders and Ethan Day -- to the transfer portal at the conclusion of the regular season. The latter signed with North Texas. Siders, who has one year of eligibility remaining, inked with West Virginia. Sabastian Harsh, just before spring camp began in late March, also entered free agency. He will spend his final season at North Carolina State.

Adrian Onyiego, a redshirt freshman who was transitioning from linebacker to end, is also in the portal.

DeVonne Harris, a multi-year starter on the edge, put a bow on his six seasons in Laramie last November.

"We had three defensive ends that played for us primarily last year and the best one of them is still here," Sawvel said following the spring game, referring to 6-foot-5, 245-pound Westland. "It's where we're at, and look, I couldn't be happier with a lot of those pieces right now."

Bogar suffered a dislocated left wrist early in camp and Ramazani missed the entirety of spring with a lingering hip injury. Brook and Handy will arrive in Laramie ahead of summer conditioning, which is set to begin May 26.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
