LARAMIE -- A trip to Hawai’i will conclude the 2021 fall season for the Wyoming Cowboy golf team this weekend as the Cowboys participate in the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai’i.

Wyoming will be competing with 12 other collegiate teams in a three-day tournament, featuring one 18-hole round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-31.

The Cowboys’ starting lineup will include: Jimmy Dales, Kirby Coe-Kirkham, Bryce Waters, Tyler Severin and Jaren Calkins. Wyoming will also have four individuals competing in the tournament: Patrick Azevedo, Jared Edeen, Aidan Mann and Cade McLaughlin.

For Friday’s opening round, the Pokes will be paired with two other Mountain West Conference teams, Boise State and Nevada, along with Cal State Northridge. The tournament will tee off at Noon, Mountain Time (8 a.m., Hawai’i Time) from the Ka’anapali Golf Club’s Royal Ka’anapali Course.

The 13 teams who will be competing will be: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Connecticut, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Gonzaga, Hawai‘i, Kansas, Loyola (Md.), Nevada, Sacramento State and Wyoming.

Team rankings from the most recent Golfstat Rankings as of Oct. 26, 2021, include: No. 14 Kansas, No. 33 Nevada, No. 44 Boise State

 

Tournament Format

All teams will play 18-hole rounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-31.

2021 Season Highlights

Kirby Coe-Kirkham and Jared Edeen Post Their Best Finishes of Season

Wyoming Cowboys Kirby Coe-Kirkham and Jared Edeen recorded their best tournament finishes of the 2021 fall season at the University of Denver Paintbrush Invitational on Oct. 4-5.

Coe-Kirkham tied for 13th with a 54-hole total of 224 (+8). Edeen shot a three-round total of 226 (+10) and tied for 22nd.

For Coe-Kirkham, it was his second Top-25 finish of the season and 13th of his career.  Edeen notched his first Top 25 finish of 2021 and second of his career.

 

Second Top 5 Finish of the Season for Wyoming 

By finishing fifth out of 17 teams at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Wyoming recorded its second Top-5 finish in five tournaments this fall.

The Cowboys also placed 5th out of 21 teams at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite to open the season 

 

Jimmy Dales Continues His Outstanding Play

Cowboy Jimmy Dales fired a 67 (-5) in the final round of the Mark Simpson Invitational to move up 27 spots and tie for seventh place, marking his fourth consecutive Top 25 finish of the season.

Dales not only made the biggest move of the day of any individual, going from tied for 34th entering the final round to tied for seventh at the end of the tournament, but his round of 67 (-5) was the second-best round of the day. 

 

Battling to the Finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

Entering the final round in fifth place, Wyoming battled throughout the final round with the host CU Buffs and the No. 48 ranked University of San Diego Toreros for fourth and fifth place. The Cowboys ended up tying CU for fifth at 835 (-29), while San Diego placed fourth at 833 (-31). 

 

Tyler Severin Records His Second Top 25 Showing of 2021-22 Season

Joining Dales with a Top-25 finish of his own at CU was Cowboy Tyler Severin, who tied for 20th at 208 (-8). Severin placed 14th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational for his other Top 25 finish this season.
