Hansen Qualifies for NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., – The NCAA announced the list of swimming qualifiers for the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday morning.

Freshman Macey Hansen was on that list and has officially punched her ticket to the NCAAs, qualifying in the 500 and 1650-yard freestyles.

Hansen is the first University of Wyoming swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships since 2017, when Maria Harutjunjan qualified for a second consecutive year in the 100-yard breaststroke. Hansen is also the first swimmer to qualify for the NCAAs during Dave Denniston’s tenure as head coach at Wyoming.

“I think it’s been something that’s been in the making for close to a decade since we’ve last had swimmers go to this meet,” Denniston said. “But with the great recruiting that Kristin Walker’s done and Macey’s drive and ambition, she really set herself apart from the rest of the conference this year and earned this opportunity. We’re excited for that but we’re also excited to build the future of our program around her level of success and she’s showing what’s capable of being done in Wyoming.”

At this year’s Mountain West Championships, Hansen shattered the school 500 and 1650-yard freestyle records, going 4:41.56 and 16:07.75. She took first in both those events, winning the first MW titles of her promising career at Wyoming as a freshman.

The NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships kick off on Wednesday March 19 and go through Friday March 21 in Federal Way, Washington, and will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
