Pokes Land 6’5″ Linebacker From Lindenwood
LARAMIE -- The rebuild in the linebacker room has begun.
Ethan Stuhlsatz late Monday announced his commitment to Wyoming, becoming the fifth transfer this offseason to choose Laramie. The 6-foot-5, 224-pound linebacker spent the last two seasons at Lindenwood (Mo.) after a year at Butler Community College (Kan.).
The Wichita product has two years of eligibility remaining.
Stuhlsatz joins defensive back Jaden DeCosta (Portland State), edge rusher Brayden Wilson (Weber State) and wide receiver Eric Richardson, who Monday also inked with the Cowboys. BJ Inmon, a cornerback from Snow College, signed his letter of intent earlier this month.
Jay Sawvel and Co. are looking to replace plenty of production at the linebacker spot after leading tacklers, Shae Suiaunoa and Connor Shay, exhausted their eligibility last fall. Those two combined for 163 tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interception and two pass breakups.
Senior Read Sunn is also one of 10 UW players this offseason to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Cole DeMarzo, who also had one year remaining, announced on social media last week he would retire from the game to pursue a career in financial planning.
Though it's only a sample size, Stuhlsatz appeared in just seven games at St. Charles's FCS institution, he did tally 90 tackles, including 20 total over the first two outings of the 2024 campaign. Nine of those came in the season opener against Kansas, including a forced fumble.
The following Saturday, his last in a Lions' uniform, he registered 11 stops and a sack in a loss to Central Arkansas.

Stuhlsatz recorded 70 tackles, 48 of the solo variety, in '23 while earning Second Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors. He tacked on a pair of forced fumbles, a recovery, a blocked kick and a tackle for loss that season, too.
Stuhlsatz attended Mt. Carmel High School where he earned First Team All-State honors as a defensive back. He was also an Honorable Mention All-State honoree in basketball. He was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl in 2021.
Fellow Kansan and linebacker Parker Moore (Lawrence Free State) inked with the Cowboys on early signing day. So did Steven Perez (Wilmington, Calif.). Those two rookies join redshirt freshmen Gary Rutherford, Adrian Onyiego, Jack Harvey and Dash Bauman on the UW roster. Nic Talich, Micah Young and Evan Eller, for now, round out the linebacker room.
The winter portal window will close Dec. 28. It briefly opens up again in the spring from April 16-25.
