LARAMIE -- A dozen prospects reportedly visited Laramie this past weekend. Another transfer is expected to be in town midweek.

Jay Sawvel and Co. have already convinced three of those players to stick around a little longer.

Defensive back Jaden DeCosta (Portland State) and edge rusher Brayden Wilson (Weber State) have already committed, according to a source familiar with the situation, and Northwest Missouri State wide receiver Eric Richardson has, too, per a social media post from Wyoming football's official X account.

This trio joins Snow College cornerback BJ Inmon, who Dec. 4 signed his letter of intent.

DaCosta, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound cornerback, tallied 48 tackles and forced a fumble last fall. Six of those stops, along with the strip, came in a 56-14 loss at Boise State. The Inglewood, Calif., product, who has three years of eligibility remaining, also broke up a pair of passes in 2024.

The former three-star recruit originally committed to Nevada out of high school. He also received offers from Rice and UNLV before eventually heading to the Pacific Northwest.

Wilson has landed All-Big Sky honors during the previous two seasons in Ogden. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive end has registered 11.5 sacks in that time frame, including 7.5 in '23. The Kaysville, Utah native also tacked on 138 tackles, along with 30 for loss, during his four-year career. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Richardson hauled in 25 passes for 411 yards and six touchdowns last fall. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound speedster scored in four straight games. He was also a deep threat, capping his season with explosive plays of 68, 46 and 44 yards.

The Saint Robert, Mo., product also rushed the ball 15 times during his two seasons in Maryville, amassing 94 yards and a touchdown.

He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Sawvel said to expect transfers to come from smaller programs. While that won't always be the case, a source indicated, he is looking for prospects on the rise.

"They can't wait to be in your program. They can't wait to be in your building. They're excited to be in the program, as opposed to somebody that comes in with a sense of entitlement, or that feels like this is a step down for them," Sawvel said in early December. "I'm not interested in that guy."

Eleven players have left the program since Dec. 9, the opening of the winter portal window. Ten have officially entered college football's version of free agency. Senior linebacker Cole DeMarzo, on the other hand, announced his retirement.

"By and large, I think if we put out a list of people that I anticipate and expect to be here, going through the spring and playing next fall, everybody would be pretty happy with that list right now," Sawvel added.

The departures on defense are: Safeties Miles Tucker, Koa McIntyre and Nikos Varelas, along with linebacker Read Sunn, edge rushers Braden Siders and Ethan Day, defensive tackle Jaden Williams and cornerback Naz Hill. Running back Dawaiian McNeely and wideout Tyler "TK" King are also in the portal.

"We're going to find 105 people that ride for the brand," Sawvel said. "When they wake up, yeah, they have to go to class, but the first thing they better think about is football."

The portal closes Dec. 28.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
