Washington Commanders Release Former Wyoming Standout
LARAMIE -- Chase Roullier is no longer a member of the Washington Commanders.
The team released the former Wyoming standout Friday after a six-year stint in the nation's capital. The former sixth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft inked a four-year, $40.5 million contract after the 2020 season.
A season-ending ankle injury cost the Commanders' center the final eight games of the '21 campaign. Roullier appeared in just two games last fall before suffering a knee injury that would sideline him for the remainder of the year.
Roullier's release will save the team nearly $9 million in cap space.

The 6-foot-4, 312-pound Minnesota product started 42 games during his five-year stint in Laramie, lining up at both center and left guard. Roullier was battery mates with current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in Laramie and helped paved the way for the school's all-time leading rusher Brian Hill, who capped his Wyoming career with 4,287 yards.
Shaun Wick, who rushed for the seventh-most yards in program history with 2,533, also benefited from the blocking of the two-time All-Mountain West selection.
A star at Burnsville High School, Roullier scooped up numerous awards during his prep career, including First Team Associated Press All-State and First Team Minneapolis Star-Tribune All-Metro honors, along with a nod for South Suburban Conference Lineman of the Year. Roullier was one of 25 finalists for Minnesota's Mr. Football award and ESPN ranked him the No. 15 recruit in the state.
He also received recruiting interest from Akron, Columbia, Princeton, Toledo and Western Michigan, along with Big Ten programs Wisconsin and Minnesota.
