Sophomore Juan Gonzalez led the pack, placing second and surpassing zone qualification in both of his dives. Senior Brendan Byrnes wasn’t far behind, taking sixth and junior Payton Lee rounded out the three with an eighth-place finish.

“I was very happy with the men’s performance today,” UW diving head coach Ted Everett said. “Juan was very consistent and both Brendan and Payton improved their scores from prelims to finals.”

Junior Melissa Mirafuentes represented the best Cowgirl on Saturday. She took 13th in a loaded field that featured some uncommon adversity.

“This meet is a great opportunity to gain experience in a high-pressure environment,” Everett said. “We even had rain for the first few rounds of diving. This kind of adversity should make diving in the conference championships in a month seem much less stressful.”

The Bruin Invite wraps up competition Sunday.
