Wyoming hoops to take on Dayton in Chicago, per report
LARAMIE -- Wyoming's 2022-23 basketball schedule is slowly beginning to take shape.
The Cowboys will take on the Dayton Flyers Dec. 17 inside the United Center in Chicago, according to a report Monday night from Jon Rothstein. A source familiar with the situation tells 7220sports.com that a contract has yet to be signed.
Wyoming and Dayton have met just twice before, splitting a two-game series. The Cowboys won the first meeting in Laramie 61-59 back in 2004. The following season, the Flyers came out on top, 62-57.
Dayton finished the 2021-22 campaign 24-11 overall and 14-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers knocked off Toledo on the road in the opening round of the NIT before falling to Vanderbilt in overtime four nights later in Nashville.
The Cowboys wrapped up the season with a 25-9 record, including a 13-5 mark in Mountain West play, in Jeff Linder's second season at the helm. UW received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and, ironically, played on the Flyers' home floor in Ohio in the First Four against Indiana. The Hoosiers won, 66-58.
Vanderbilt and North Carolina State are the other two teams to play in what Rothstein writes is a new annual event. The Windy City affair could feature up to two more games, per the report from collegehoopstoday.com.
Wyoming is also slated to play in the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Nov. 18-21. The other participants are: Belmont, Boston College, Tarleton State, Buffalo, Drake, George Mason and Howard.
That three-game, multiple-team tournament will be streamed on ESPN3. Matchups have yet to be determined.
Grand Canyon will also visit Laramie this season as part of a home-and-home with the Antelopes. UW knocked off GCU 68-61 last November in Phoenix.
