Wyoming Inks Former Wisconsin Safety Justin Taylor
LARAMIE -- Wyoming has added another piece to its revamped backend.
Former Wisconsin safety Justin Taylor Tuesday became the sixth transfer this offseason to commit to the Cowboys. The sophomore is the third secondary player to ink on the dotted line, joining fellow safety Jaden DeCosta (Portland State) and cornerback BJ Inmon (Snow College).
Taylor has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Another safety gave his verbal late Tuesday night, but has yet to publicly announce his decision, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The staff isn't done adding to the last line of defense, either, in an attempt to replace starters Wyett Ekeler, Isaac White and Tyrecus Davis, in addition to depth players like Koa McIntyre, Nikos Varelas, Miles Tucker and Naz Hill, that same source indicated.
Edge rusher Brayden Wilson (Weber State), linebacker Ethan Stuhlsatz (Lindenwood) and wide receiver Eric Richardson (NW Missouri State) have also joined the program this week.
Taylor, a former three-star prospect from Broadview, Ill., spent the previous two seasons in Madison, tallying just a single tackle. That came last November in a home loss to Northwestern. He redshirted during the 2023 campaign.
The 6-foot, 200-pounder was recruited by Paul Chryst's staff at Wisconsin. Luke Fickell took the reins just six months later.

Wyoming initially offered Taylor after he registered 33 tackles and 10 pass breakups during his senior season at Nazareth Academy in 2022. Mountain West rivals Colorado State and Air Force did, too. Kansas State, along with a host of MAC schools, also wanted the former two-time All-State honoree.
Taylor also rushed for 402 yards that final prep season. He added 48 catches.
He is the second former Wisconsin player to land at Wyoming via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Cornerback Deron Harrell came to Laramie in 2022. He missed the following season with a hip injury.
Ten have left the team and entered college football's version of free agency, eight of which have come from the defense: tackle Jaden Williams, edge rushers Ethan Day and Braden Siders, linebacker Read Sunn, Tucker, Varelas, McIntyre and Hill. Senior linebacker Cole DeMarzo announced last week he will retire.
On the other side of the ball, running back Dawaiian McNeely and wideout Tyler "TK" King have also entered the portal.
The staff is now expected to sign up to 40 players this offseason, per a source. Head coach Jay Sawvel said publicly he is in the market for a quarterback to serve as a backup to Kaden Anderson next fall. Sawvel and Co. will also look to land additional help at linebacker, at defensive end, offensive tackle and at wide receiver, that source added.
The winter portal window is open until Dec. 28. It briefly opens again in the spring from April 16-30.
Spring practice is set to begin in Laramie March 25.
