Wyoming Lands Big Man in the NCAA Transfer Portal

LARAMIE -- Wyoming has finally landed a big man.

Touko Tainamo, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward from Helsinki, Finland, will ink with the Cowboys, becoming the fourth incoming transfer this spring. He joins guards Obi Agbim (Fort Lewis) and Tyree Ihenacho (North Dakota) along with stretch wing Matija Belic (UC Santa Barbara).

Tainamo has one season of eligibility remaining.

A member of the Finland National Team and a graduate of the famed DME Academy, Tainamo spent the previous three seasons at the University of Denver, where he averaged 11.2 points per game.

Last season, Tainamo netted 15.2 points and pulled down nearly eight rebounds per night while helping lead the Pioneers reach the championship game of the Summit League Tournament. He started all 34 games during the 2023-24 campaign and finished in double figures 24 times.

Tainamo scored 20-plus points in 11 outings and capped his final season at DU with eight double-doubles.

His best outing came in the season opener when he tied a career-high with 31 points in a 95-87 loss to UC San Diego. Tainamo was 8-of-16 from the floor and connected on 14-of-16 shots from the free-throw line. He also hauled in 18 rebounds, two shy of his best mark of the year.

He was the third-best rebounder in the Summit League and was also named an honorable mention in that league.

Tainamo etched his name in the DU history books last season, netting 517 points (sixth best single season), 118 free throws (sixth), 162 free-throw attempts (sixth) and 262 rebounds (third).

Wyoming has lost six players to the portal the offseason, most recently Missouri natives Cam Manyawu and Kael Combs, who figured to be building blocks toward the future. Brendan Wenzel (TCU), Caden Powell (Rice), Jacob Theodosiou and Jonas Sirtautas (Radford) have also left the program.

Linder and Co. now have one available scholarship and a possible second if Kenny Foster doesn't come back for his final season in Laramie.

The transfer portal is open until May 1.
