Wyoming QB Kaden Anderson ‘Doubtful’ to Play in Season Finale
LARAMIE -- "Is there a word between questionable and doubtful?"
Jay Sawvel openly asked that question Monday during his weekly press conference. That's quarterback Kaden Anderson's official status, as of now, for the Cowboys season finale at Washington State, Wyoming's rookie head coach said.
The redshirt freshman was forced from last Saturday night's game late in the second quarter after his head violently bounced off the turf. He spent the final half of that 17-13 loss to Boise State in concussion protocol.
Evan Svoboda, who started the first eight games of the year under center, stepped in for Anderson, connecting on 6-of-13 throws for 87 yards. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound junior would again get the call Saturday afternoon in Pullman. Redshirt freshman Gage Brook would serve as his back-up.
Just as Anderson completed a screen pass to tight end John Michael Gyllenborg inside the UW 25-yard line with just over four minutes to go, preseason All-American edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein was launching into his midsection.
"We did a poor job at left tackle, protecting the quarterback, and he took a hit," Sawvel said, referring to redshirt freshman Jake Davies, who barely got a hand on the Broncos' defensive end. "His head hit the turf very hard."

Anderson, who capped his night with nine completions on 14 attempts, finished with 116 passing yards. That included a five-yard touchdown toss to Justin Stevenson, giving the Cowboys a 10-7 lead with 9:36 left in the first half.
Anderson would again return to the field for the final offensive drive of the quarter. After a gain of one and a three-yard rush from Jamari Ferrell, the Texas product misfired on a third-down toss in the direction of Jaylen Sargent.
"On our first play, we had a motion on that play. He didn't send the guy in motion," Sawvel said of Anderson. "I think that's probably when everybody started to realize that something's up. He finished that series out, but even on the third-down play, I think we had a receiver open and he was just inaccurate with the ball. He probably was seeing four of him, at the time."
Anderson started the previous three games for the Cowboys, completing nearly 60% of his passes in the process. He has 955 yards through the air this fall to go along with six touchdowns.
Wyoming (2-9, 2-5) and Washington State (8-3) are slated to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on The CW.
