Wyoming Swimmers Head to Denver for First Chance Meet
* University of Wyoming press release
DENVER, Colo., -- The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team takes part in its final meet of the season before its conference championships. The Cowboys and Cowgirls travel to the DU First Chance Meet from Friday through Saturday inside El Pomar Natatorium.
Only a select number of Wyoming’s student-athletes will compete in Denver. A couple will utilize it as one final tune-up before the conference championships, while others have been tapering and will wear a special suit in an effort to go as quickly as possible.
“There are quite a few people on this team that have worked very hard but based on the rules and everything with our conference, we can only take a certain number of athletes to the conference championships,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “So, this meet is nice, as it’s a way for the athletes who aren’t able to travel on that trip to taper, wear a fast suit and see how fast they can go.”
Wyoming is sending 13 swimmers to Denver – nine Cowgirls and four Cowboys. Friday’s portion of the competition begins at 3 p.m., while Saturday’s meet kicks off at 10 a.m.
As mentioned, conference championship season is right around the corner. The Mountain West Conference Championships run from Feb. 15-18, and the Western Athletic Conference Championships go from Feb. 22-25.
