Meyer Pours in 24 points in 89-76 Exhibition Loss to TCU
MIDLAND, Texas -- Naz Meyer sank 4-of-6 from deep and hit nine total shots from the floor Saturday, finishing with a team-high 24 points in an 89-76 exhibition loss to Texas Christian inside the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center.
The sophomore guard also added four rebounds and three steals in 36 minutes of work.
Khaden Bennett netted 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting and Gavin Gores, who was in foul trouble throughout, finished with eight points.
Gavin Sykes, who scored 35 points in last week's "secret scrimmage" against Metroplex foe SMU, poured in a team-best 17 points for the Horned Frogs. Brock Harding finished with 16 and All-Big-XII selection Xavier Edmonds pitched in with 15.
Sykes was the Big West Rookie of the Year after averaging 19.4 points per night during his lone season at Long Beach State.
Wyoming shot 50.9% from the floor but splashed just 8-of-28 triples. TCU shot nearly 48% from deep, drilling 10-of-21 attempts.
TCU build a 20-plus point lead early in the second half, but the visitors managed to close the gap.
Linus Ruf capped this outing with six points and Uriyah Rojas and Madden Smiley both added five. Mike Mora, Renars Sondors and Neil Summers all netted three.
The Cowboys opened the exhibition portion of the schedule last Sunday in Gillette with a 94-68 victory over Northern Colorado. Meyer finished with 17 points and, along with Bennett and Gores, combined for more than 40 points for the Pokes.
Wyoming has one final exhibition matchup before the 2026-27 regular season kicks off. Sundance Wicks and the Cowboys will play host to the College of Idaho on Saturday at 12 p.m. inside the Arena-Auditorium.
