LARAMIE -- You can never have too many versatile guards, right?

Wyoming landed another outside threat, its fourth of the offseason, inking Jared Harris. The sophomore spent his first collegiate season at Memphis and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2 Texas product joins fellow backcourt newcomers DeMarion Dennis (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi), Adam Harakow (Lake Superior State) and Khaden Bennett (Quinnipiac), along with forward Buddy Hammer Jr. (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College).

Harris appeared in just 16 games last season, averaging three minutes per outing. He netted just seven total points, including three in a blowout victory over FAU. He finished with two rebounds in a win over ECU.

"I feel like Memphis was a good fit (for me),” Harris told Commercial Appeal March 25, the same day he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. “I built great relationships with my teammates and the coaching staff. I just feel like I wasn’t given the opportunity to really show what I could do.”

A four-star prospect out of Silsbee High School, Harris received offers from the who's who of college basketball, including in-state powerhouses like Houston, Texas Tech, Texas and Texas A&M.

Auburn also wanted the shooting guard. So did Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and many others, according to 247sports.com.

Harris was ranked the No. 7 player in the state of Texas, per the recruiting website.

Brandon Jenkins, a recruiting analyst, had this to say about Harris on 247sports: "(He) is a true shooting guard with long arms and an immense talent level. He has a natural feel for getting to his spots and is an effortless scorer of the basketball. He can connect on open shots with deep range and a clean release. However, his jumper and an overall game can be streaky.

"There are times where his level of intensity tends to waver and his body language leaves a lot to be desired. When motivated and locked in, his talent level meets his production and he looks the part of a skilled and athletic guard who can reach his potential. He brings great tools to the backcourt when factoring in his length, athleticism, and shooting prowess. His mentality and willingness to buy in will be key when discussing his level of efficiency and production at the collegiate level."

Six Cowboys have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal since the spring window opened on March 24, including guards Obi Agbim (Baylor), Nigle CookLevi Brown and AJ Wills.

Big men Scottie Ebube and Oleg Kojenets (Stony Brook) are also on the open market.

Only two scholarship players remain -- forwards Matija Belic and Abou Magassa -- and Wicks and Co. have added three high school prospects: Forwards Gavin Gores (6'10", 210, Cumberland, Wisconsin) and Neil Summers (6'9", 240, Laramie, Wyo.) and guard Nasir Meyer (6'7", 185, Los Angeles, Calif.).

Freshman walk-on Garrett Spielman of Sheridan is also currently on the roster.

Though the current portal window closed April 22, players who have entered the free-agent market can still sign at any time.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
