LARAMIE -- Lightning in the Laramie area will delay the start of the Wyoming-Texas Tech football game tonight inside War Memorial Stadium.

Kickoff, which was originally slated for 5:30 p.m. MST, is now TBA.

"When lightning strikes are not detected for a 30-minute continuous period within this range, the all clear notification can be given," the Mountain West Conference handbook reads.

A school official said the clock inside the stadium, which is currently set at 40 minutes, should soon begin to tick down. Once that happens teams will warm up until the 10-minute mark before returning to their respective locker rooms in order to play the national anthem.

September weather delays are nothing new in this part of the state.

Most notably, Wyoming hosted Northern Illinois in the 2016 opener, a game that was delayed by nearly two hours thanks to a series of thunderstorms. UW quarterback Josh Allen dove into the north end zone from seven yards out and the Cowboys eventually won a 40-34 thriller in three overtimes.

The game ended at 2:34 a.m.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
