LARAMIE -- Wyoming has welcomed nearly 50 new faces this offseason.

Transfer portal era, am I right?

Jay Sawvel knew a rebuild on defense was in order after losing both starting linebackers and safeties, along with leaders like Jordan Bertagnole and DeVonne Harris. The departures of Wrook BrownSabastian Harsh and Keany Parks only magnified things.

The second-year head coach got busy, inking a dozen transfers on that side of the ball on February's traditional signing day and adding three more since the annual spring game.

On offense, the damage was limited.

Yes, running back Harrison Waylee is now at Virginia. Young wideout Justin Stevenson is a Utah Ute now, too. But if you ask Sawvel, he kept the players he wanted on offense, beginning with quarterback Kaden Anderson.

Three of the Cowboys' top linemen -- Jack WalshCaden Barnett and Wes King -- are also back. So is tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, wide receivers Chris Durr Jr. and Jaylen Sargent, along with leading rusher Sam Scott.

So, without further ado, let's spent the summer meeting the new players that litter this 2025 roster:

NAME | Bart Edmiston Jr.

YEAR | Junior

HT/WT | 6' 0", 200

HOMETOWN | Ocean Springs, Miss.

POSITION | Punter, placekicker

JERSEY NUMBER | 18

PREVIOUS SCHOOL | Jones College (Miss.)

YEARS OF ELIGIBILITY | Two

NOTABLE | The former NJCAA All-American and two-time all-conference selection at Jones College committed to the Cowboys late in the spring and eventually inked on the dotted line during the second transfer portal window. Bart Edmiston Jr. was the MACCC South Special Teams Player of the Year in 2023, the same season he landed second team All-American honors. He led the nation in punting that season, setting a new single-season record with an average of 44.6 yards per attempt. The junior dropped 22 punts inside the 20-yard line. Sixteen traveled at least 50 yards and three times Edmiston eclipsed 60. He also had a career-best 65-yard boot. That year he also drilled 9-of-13 field goals. Edmiston averaged 44.8 yard per kick last fall, and 23 times pinned his opponent inside the 20. He added a dozen more boots of 50-plus yards. He also averaged 61.3 on kickoffs, with eight touchbacks. Edmiston will look to replace senior Jack Culbreath, who during his lone season in Laramie averaged just 38.2 yards per punt, landing seventh overall in the 12-team Mountain West. That ranked 82nd nationally out of 133 FBS programs. Edmiston's father, Bart Edmiston Sr., helped lead the University of Florida to a national championship back in 1996. He made 114 consecutive extra points, an NCAA record that stood for more than a decade.

QUOTABLE | "When I first arrived in Laramie, it was not what I was expecting. It was astonishing. After meeting all the coaches, players and staff, I knew this was the place I was meant to be,” -- Bart Edmiston said after verbally committing to the Cowboys last April

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
