ALBQUERQUE, N.M., – The University of Wyoming soccer team suffered a loss Thursday at the UNM Soccer Complex. New Mexico scored early and hung on for a 1-0 victory.

The Cowgirls drop to 7-5-5 on the season and 2-3-3 (9 points) in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos improve to 8-3-5 overall and 4-1-3 (15 points) in league play.

Alejandra Puerto provided the match’s lone goal. She scored during the fourth minute off a pass from Gabby Beaudry. It was Puerto’s eighth score of the season, two behind Alyssa Glover for the conference lead.

The Pokes peppered New Mexico to no avail. They fired 19 shots to the Lobos’ five and Wyoming held a 6-2 advantage in shots on target.

Glover owned a game-high four shots. Addison Keen and Erin Dahl each had three, while Kiley Ballek, Maddie Burr and Raegan Richardson recorded two shots apiece.

Cowgirls’ keeper, Haley Bartel, made one save. Her counterpart, Alyson Campbell boasted six saves.

With just two matches left, Wyoming is in need of points. The Pokes travel to San Diego State on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at the SDSU Sports Deck before returning home for the regular-season finale against Colorado State on Oct. 30.
