LARAMIE -- And then there were two.

As in scholarship players remaining on Wyoming's current roster after it was announced Wednesday big man Scottie Ebube would be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal after just one season in Laramie.

The 6-foot-10, 275-pound junior will be looking for his second new home in as many seasons after leaving Southern Illinois before the 2024-25 campaign. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Ebube becomes the sixth Cowboy to enter college basketball's version of free agency, joining fellow forward Oleg Kojenets and guards Obi Agbim, AJ Wills, Levi Brown and Nigle Cook.

Forwards Abou Magassa and Matija Belic are last men standing from a team that finished 12-20 overall, 5-15 in Mountain West play, and was bounced in the opening round of the conference tournament, falling to San Jose State for the third straight time.

Freshman walk-on Garrett Spielman of Sheridan is also currently on the roster.

Head coach Sundance Wicks, as of now, has only inked three incoming freshmen: Forwards Gavin Gores (6'10", 210, Cumberland, Wisconsin) and Neil Summers (6'9", 240, Laramie, Wyo.) and guard Nasir Meyer (6'7", 185, Los Angeles, Calif.).

Ebube never made a start during his brief stint on the high plains, though he did appear in 23 games. The Illinois product averaged five points per game while pulling down nearly three rebounds.

His best outing came in a road loss at San Jose State when he poured in a career-best 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field. He also snagged six boards in just 17 minutes on the court.

Ebube didn't play in the second game against the Spartans.

For the second time, he was suspended for violating the team's "Cultural conduct" policy, which Wicks set in place when he arrived last May.

"Be a good human, be a great teammate and be on time,” Wicks said during a press conference in December. “It’s pretty simple stuff."

Ebube was sidelined during a victory over Tulane in the Cancun Challenge and missed four straight league games, including back-to-back road losses at New Mexico and Colorado State.

He was also tossed out of practice for all the world to see on the Cowboys' preseason documentary series, Mountain Made.

"I've always liked piss and vinegar," Wicks joked back in October. "I was a salty cat myself."

Ebube was a two-time all-state selection at Mundelein High School. He also earned all-area honors twice while leading his team to a 43-6 record in his final two prep seasons.

He appeared in 43 games for the Salukis, starting just one, during his first two collegiate seasons. Ebube averaged just 4.6 points per game during that span.

The spring portal window opened today and goes through April 22.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
