Welcome to Wyoming Football: Max White
LARAMIE -- Wyoming has welcomed nearly 50 new faces this offseason.
Transfer portal era, am I right?
Jay Sawvel knew a rebuild on defense was in order after losing both starting linebackers and safeties, along with leaders like Jordan Bertagnole and DeVonne Harris. The departures of Wrook Brown, Sabastian Harsh and Keany Parks only magnified things.

The second-year head coach got busy, inking a dozen transfers on that side of the ball on February's traditional signing day and adding three more since the annual spring game.
On offense, the damage was limited.
Yes, running back Harrison Waylee is now at Virginia. Young wideout Justin Stevenson is a Utah Ute now, too. But if you ask Sawvel, he kept the players he wanted on offense, beginning with quarterback Kaden Anderson.
Three of the Cowboys' top linemen -- Jack Walsh, Caden Barnett and Wes King -- are also back. So is tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, wide receivers Chris Durr Jr. and Jaylen Sargent, along with leading rusher Sam Scott.
So, without further ado, let's spent the summer meeting the new players that litter this 2025 roster:
NAME | Max White
YEAR | Graduate
HT/WT | 5' 10", 207
HOMETOWN | Cedar Rapids, Iowa
POSITION | Running back
JERSEY NUMBER | 24
PREVIOUS SCHOOL | Iowa
YEARS OF ELIGIBILITY | One
NOTABLE | Max White appeared in all of the Hawkeyes' 27 games over the last two seasons, becoming a mainstay on special teams. The 5-foot-10, 207-pound Cedar Rapids, Iowa product rushed for just 35 yards on six carries last fall. The year prior, he finished with three yards on the same number of attempts and scored from the goal line in a 41-10 rout of Western Michigan. White also returned four kickoffs during his stint in Iowa City. He averaged 21.3 yards per attempt in 2024. Three times White has earned a team honor, including the Brett Greenwood Award (Coaches appreciation, special teams), the Team Hustle Award in '23 and Team Leader Award during his redshirt freshman campaign. Nebraska, along with South Dakota and South Dakota State showed interest in the two-way star at John F. Kennedy High School. The former All-State running back -- White rushed for more than 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns -- also lined up at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back.
QUOTABLE | "He’s just one of those guys in the locker room that, he works so hard. Whether he’s on scout team or whether he’s running with the ones, he is just a truly team-first guy. Everyone knows his effort, his energy. For him to have some individual success, I think the entire team embraced that," Iowa's senior quarterback Cade McNamara told the media in 2023 after White found the end zone for the first time in his career in a home win over Western Michigan
