LARAMIE -- Ready. Set. Go.

Over the next 14 days, Jay Sawvel will attempt to replenish and upgrade his roster through college football's version of free agency, better known as the NCAA Transfer portal.

Wyoming's head coach has a list of wants and needs. Those seemingly change on a daily basis as players declare on social media that they will be seeking a fresh opportunity.

Some leave for supposed greener pastures. Others, the almighty dollar. There are plenty that are asked to find a new address, too, especially former walk-on's and fringe players.

Why?

With only one transfer window, this is the lone chance for many to find a soft landing spot. Roster limits are also on the horizon. Aside from the select few who are "grandfathered in," that ceiling is now 105. The Cowboys suited up 118 last fall.

Sawvel said prior to the offseason he had a list of 13 "keepers." That number, according to a source familiar with that directory, is now at nine. It is believed those losses are wide receiver Chris Durr Jr., defensive tackle Lucas Samsula and cornerbacks Markie Grant and Tyrese Boss.

What positions need to be addressed over the next two weeks?

That checklist starts right under center, where Sawvel is in search of a dual-threat quarterback who can execute new offensive coordinator Christian Taylor's multiple-set offense.

Sawvel famously said in November he is "taking a blowtorch" to that side of the football. Expect to see multiple offensive linemen, wide receivers and at least one more running back, joining that coveted signal caller.

"There's a couple things, in a big way, that we need to get fixed," Sawvel said ahead of the season finale at Hawaii. "And first and foremost, we got to score points. I'm so pissed that we're not scoring points. We're going to get that addressed."

The program did receive some good news on Wednesday when two young playmakers -- running back Samuel "Tote" Harris and slot receiver Deion DeBlanc -- publicly announced they will be back in the mix.

Sawvel and Co. rebuilt the Cowboys' defense ahead of the 2025 campaign, bringing in future starters like Brayden Johnson, Desman Hearns, Ethan Stuhlsatz and Dainsus Miller. That foursome transferred in from Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Illinois, Lindenwood and Mercer, respectively.

Some might think that's the "cheap" route. Sawvel says he welcomes the overlooked. The underdogs. The players with a permanent chip on the shoulder.

The defensive backfield now needs to be addressed, though this staff likes the youth in the secondary, including Tyson Deen and Kaiden Kimble-Turner, among others. Wyoming needs multiple edge rushers, as well, with the graduation of Tyce Westland, Chisom Ifeanyi and Larry Wilson.

Here is what we know.
