LARAMIE -- Tyrecus Davis thought it was all over.

Wyoming's senior cornerback was set to ride off into the sunset after tallying a team-high seven tackles and picking off a pass in a 15-14 road upset of Washington State in the regular-season finale.

Not so fast.

The NCAA Division-I Board of Directors last Monday approved a waiver allowing senior student athletes an additional year of competition if they came from the junior college level.

Davis did just that.

The 5-foot-10, 188-pound Greenville, Texas product, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Navarro C.C., announced Friday he will exercise that right and is currently looking for a new home via the transfer portal.

"Thanks to the new JUCO rule, I have an extra year of eligibility and I’m excited to announce that I’ll be entering the transfer portal as a May 2025 grad transfer," Davis penned on social media. "Grateful for my time at Wyoming and ready to explore new opportunities for my final season."

Running back Jamari Ferrell and returner Caleb Cooley are also now eligible to play next fall, too. Neither has publicly announced a decision.

Edge Rusher Braden Siders Looking Elsewhere to Cap Career

Davis is technically the 13th Cowboy to enter college football's version of free agency this fall, joining eight other defensive players: tackle Jaden Williams (Kentucky), edge rushers Braden Siders and Ethan Day, safeties Koa McIntyre, Miles Tucker, Nikos Varelas, linebacker Read Sunn (Eastern Washington) and cornerback Naz Hill.

Senior linebacker Cole DeMarzo announced earlier in the month he would be retiring with one season of eligibility remaining.

Wide receivers Tyler "TK" King (New Mexico State), Justin Stevenson and Kaden LaFramboise are also gone. So is fifth-year running back Dawaiian McNeely.

Davis, who played two seasons at Wyoming, registered 69 total tackles -- 42 in 2024 -- and two interceptions. He also broke up 15 passes and forced a pair of fumbles.

Jay Sawvel and Co. have been busy this December revamping this roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The secondary has been an emphasis for this staff, adding five players via the portal: corners BJ Inmon (Snow College) and Jaden DeCosta (Portland State), along with safeties Brooklyn Cheek (Cal), Justin Taylor (Wisconsin) and nickelback Desman Hearns (Southern Illinois).

Freshmen Elvin Ampofo (Aurora, Colo.), Tyson Deen (San Antonio, Texas) and Kaiden Kimble-Turner (Kuna, Ida.) have also signed with the Cowboys.

Keany Parks is expected to return in 2025. He was a starter at cornerback last fall. Tyrese Boss, Markie Grant, Charles Williams, Ian Bell, Caleb Merritt and Isaac Sell could be in the mix, too.

The transfer portal is set to close tonight at midnight. A brief window will open again this spring from April 16-30.
